Four farm tables are pushed into one, along the deck, with rentals from Deo & Duke event rental. The only common table is the one that carries the idea of the ceremony without the front row through dinner. “It felt less like a formal reception and more like the tables that many of us remember the most,” says Lauren, “holiday meals, family celebrations, meals that last until the evening because no one wants to leave.”

This was done to welcome guests when they arrived, and it became the brief for everything else. The words were important, Lauren says, “not because they described a location, but because they described how we hoped people would feel.”

Here comes the taste: the fruit. Apples, pears, two colors of grapes and plums are placed directly on the tree between the arrangements instead of piled up in a bowl. Lauren compares the effect to a Dutch still life, “not because everything was carefully arranged, but because it celebrated abundance.” “Butterfly’s Rest” brought out ornamental grasses, dahlias, smoke and a smoke bush in the center with the same logic without hierarchy as the ceremony, and the sharp, olive, blush and plum, pulling their colors straight from the letter paper.
